A heart-wrenching incident unfolded as a 17-month-old baby boy tragically lost his life, allegedly due to abuse inflicted by his mother’s boyfriend. Authorities are currently on a manhunt for the 27-year-old suspect, who is believed to be responsible for the child’s untimely demise.
According to Abdul Rozak Muhammad, the Chief of Besut Police, the baby was left under the care of the suspect by the single mother at 4 p.m. on Tuesday. Shockingly, when the baby was returned to his mother the following day at 7:30 a.m., he was unconscious and bore visible bruises on various parts of his body.
Regrettably, despite immediate medical attention, the infant was pronounced dead at the Kampung Raja health clinic in Besut. A subsequent post-mortem examination conducted at Sultanah Nur Zahirah Hospital revealed that the cause of death was a leakage in the small intestine.
In light of this distressing incident, the mother has been taken into custody by the police. Meanwhile, authorities are actively pursuing the suspect to aid in the investigation of potential charges related to ill-treatment, neglect, abandonment, or exposure of children under Section 31(1) of the Child Act 2001, as stated by Rozak.
The community is left devastated by this tragic loss, and the incident serves as a stark reminder of the importance of safeguarding the well-being of vulnerable children. Authorities are committed to seeking justice for the innocent victim, and the investigation will continue to unfold as more details emerge.
