ELURU, November 5, 2023, 11:52 AM IST – In response to the heart-wrenching deaths of a newborn baby girl, twins in utero, and a pregnant woman at the Government General Hospital (GGH-Eluru) on November 4, Eluru District Collector V. Prasanna Venkatesh has ordered a comprehensive investigation into the circumstances surrounding these tragic incidents.
The inquiry will be jointly conducted by District Hospital Services Coordinator (DCHS-Eluru), Dr. B. Sateesh Paul, and GGH Superintendent, Dr. Sashidhar. As per an official statement released by the Collector, the distressing incident unfolded when 29-year-old N. Alekhya gave birth to a baby girl who required immediate medical attention. Consequently, her family opted to transfer her to an alternative healthcare facility from the GGH for specialized emergency care. Regrettably, the newborn infant succumbed to her ailments shortly after being discharged from the hospital.
Furthermore, within the same medical institution, another grim occurrence transpired as T. Devi, who was in the 33rd week of her pregnancy, tragically passed away while undergoing medical treatment. Ms. Devi had been admitted to GGH-Eluru while in an unconscious state and, despite the medical interventions undertaken, succumbed to her health complications. Preliminary reports indicate that the twins she was carrying in her womb were also found deceased.
In light of these deeply unfortunate events, the Collector has issued directives to the pertinent medical and health authorities, as well as the GGH-Eluru administration, to furnish a detailed report elucidating the circumstances surrounding these four tragic fatalities, all of which occurred on a single fateful day.
