An incident of alleged child abuse that took place during the summer has led to a 27-year-old mother being granted $5,000 bail. In an effort to protect the identity of the child, the accused mother’s name is not being disclosed.
Assistant Chief Magistrate Subusola Swain laid charges against the accused, citing cruelty to children, after the mother was accused of subjecting her nine-month-old son to unnecessary suffering, resulting in injury to his health on June 20.
Upon entering a plea of not guilty, the accused was subsequently informed that she would be granted bail, set at $5,000, contingent upon one or two sureties. The case is slated for trial on December 8.
The allegations of child abuse have ignited concerns within the community, prompting a legal response that will see the matter brought before the courts for a full examination.
