Mother Defends Workington Dad in Baby’s Death Case

by sun

Georgia Wright, the mother accused of “allowing or causing” the death of her baby son in Workington, has staunchly defended her innocence during the ongoing trial. She repeatedly denied harming her son, Dallas, and any involvement in covering up for the child’s father, Reece Kelly, who is facing charges related to the murder of their four-month-old child.

The tragic incident occurred on October 19, 2021, four days after Kelly had made a distressing call to emergency services, reporting that their child was seriously unwell and not breathing. Subsequent medical examinations revealed that Dallas had sustained multiple rib fractures and a “traumatic head injury,” which experts believe resulted from violent shaking.

Reece Kelly, aged 31, has admitted to the manslaughter of Dallas but claims he shook the child only “gently” to rouse him, with no intent to cause harm. On the other hand, Georgia Wright firmly denies any involvement in allowing the child’s death, while both defendants vehemently deny accusations of causing cruelty to their son by failing to provide medical care and exposing him to illicit drugs in their home.

During an interview that took place over an hour in August of the previous year, Georgia Wright admitted that she had faced difficulties in coping at times. However, she asserted that she always believed her son was “protected 100 percent” by Reece Kelly, emphasizing that he had never shown any violence towards their child and had a deep affection for Dallas. Wright adamantly denied ever shaking their son.

Regarding her previous interactions with law enforcement, where she had not been entirely forthcoming about her history of drug use, she stated, “I didn’t do any of those injuries to my little boy. I’d swear that on anything and I mean that.” She expressed a desire to know the truth, stating, “I just… want to know the truth. He was my baby. I carried him in my body. I loved him. I don’t know how those injuries happened. If I did, I’d tell you. Doing any investigation, you have to be truthful and honest.”

Wright further mentioned her willingness to take a lie detector test to prove her honesty.

Earlier in the interview, she spoke highly of Reece Kelly’s relationship with their son, stating, “He is. He really is. He loved his little boy.”

The trial is ongoing.
