Hygiene Kits and Baby Bundles Alleviate Basic Needs for Local Students and New Moms

by sun

In a heartwarming display of community support, seventeen dedicated members of the Assistance League of Northern Virginia recently convened to assemble essential hygiene products and baby bundles. This noble effort resulted in the creation of 400 toiletry kits earmarked for 5th and 6th-grade students in local schools as part of their hygiene education. Each meticulously prepared kit included a washcloth, soap, shampoo, deodorant, comb, hairbrush, toothpaste, and a toothbrush. The impact of this act of kindness was swiftly acknowledged by a grateful social worker at one of the recipient schools, who exclaimed, “We are so appreciative of anything you all can do. This is amazing! Thank you so much.”

Notably, the nonprofit organization received a generous donation from Rebecca Hall and RBH Global Wealth Partners, specifically for procuring the washcloths required for this fall’s hygiene kits. However, Assistance League’s resourceful shoppers capitalized on an excellent deal, allowing them to secure all necessary washcloths for the entire school year with additional funding. This is where the generosity of Dr. Lincoln German and the Spine Care of Manassas Chiropractic Center became instrumental. Their financial support made it possible to cover the remaining costs. It’s worth noting that both Dr. German and RBH have maintained a steadfast commitment to Assistance League over the years, for which the nonprofit remains deeply appreciative.

In addition to the hygiene kits, Assistance League members dedicated their efforts to assembling 58 packages of baby items, affectionately known as “Baby Bundles.” These bundles contained handmade blankets and hats, new clothing items, board books designed for new moms to read to their babies, and educational materials in both English and Spanish focusing on SIDS prevention. The majority of the crocheted and knitted blankets and hats were crafted by the Dunbarton Hugs Team in Bristow and the Nativity Church Craft Club in Burke, two groups that have been long-standing supporters of Assistance League’s programs. Furthermore, several Assistance League members personally created and contributed delightful blankets and bib sets for inclusion in these special bundles. These heartwarming Baby Bundles were subsequently delivered to a local clinic that has faithfully served hundreds of low-income families each week, maintaining a fruitful partnership with the nonprofit for over two decades.
