In a recent report by the Maternal Mental Health Leadership Alliance, it was revealed that one in five new parents grapple with mood or anxiety disorders during pregnancy or in the postpartum period. In response to this pressing issue, the Newma Maternal and Pediatric Wellness Center has unveiled its doors to assist mothers coping with postpartum mood or anxiety disorders, particularly postpartum depression, which affects one in 11 women in Colorado, according to statistics from Children’s Hospital Colorado.
Morgan Tempel, the proprietor of this groundbreaking clinic, envisions it as a one-stop solution for new mothers facing the uncertainties and challenges that often accompany the postpartum period. With a team of dedicated professionals, including a family nurse practitioner, certified lactation consultants, a licensed feeding therapist, and a chiropractor, Newma Wellness Center offers comprehensive support to new mothers and their children.
Tempel, drawing from her 15-year experience working in a hospital, expressed her motivation for founding this clinic, emphasizing the need to address the many questions and concerns that new mothers have after childbirth. “So, one thing that happens after a mom leaves a hospital or her birthing center or after her home birth is she feels separated from her baby. She has her provider and then the baby has theirs. We don’t like that separation; we don’t like that separation. We want to bring that all together because a baby and mom are still one,” Tempel explained.
She further added, “There’s a lot of ‘I’m left to figure it out on my own.’ Which is just not how we are built. We’re built to come together, and we just created this place to love on other moms and help love on each other.”
The Newma Wellness Center goes beyond maternal and pediatric care by offering testing for various illnesses, such as flu and RSV. Additionally, the clinic provides a range of educational classes and workshops tailored for new mothers and their infants, some of which are available free of charge.
