by sun

In a recent development within the legal proceedings surrounding the tragic overdose of an 8-month-old baby on fentanyl, a Princeton mother, Aspen Funk, witnessed a reduction in her bond during a Magistrate court session held in Mercer County.

As previously reported, Aspen Funk, 24, and her husband, Justin Funk, 40, both residents of Princeton, were apprehended by the West Virginia State Police on September 10. They faced charges of one count of child neglect resulting in serious bodily injury and two counts of child neglect creating a risk of injury.

In a significant turn of events, the mother opted to forego her right to a preliminary hearing before Magistrate Kieth Compton’s court. In light of this decision, the court took the unusual step of reducing her bond. Originally set at $30,000 as a cash/surety bond, it was lowered to a $10,000 personal recognizance bond, contingent upon certain conditions, including home confinement.

Meanwhile, the 8-month-old child, who had experienced the fentanyl overdose, is reported to be in stable condition and steadily progressing on the path to recovery, all under the attentive care of Child Protective Services. It is worth noting that Funk’s other two children are currently under the guardianship of their grandparents.
