Gombe State University (GSU) witnessed a distressing incident as a 23-year-old final year student, Rahab Musa Sambo, from Filiya town in Shongom Local Government Area of Gombe State, stands accused of killing her newborn baby. The shocking incident unfolded when Sambo allegedly threw her infant son through a hostel window just hours after giving birth in a university toilet.
According to an anonymous source within the university, Sambo had conceived the child out of wedlock and made the horrifying decision to end the baby’s life by discarding him through the window.
The source described the tragic sequence of events, stating, “Immediately after she delivered the boy, she threw him out through the hostel window, and the baby tragically lost his life instantly.”
The university community swiftly responded to the alarming incident, preventing a potential mob from taking matters into their own hands. Sambo was taken to the university’s clinic, where she underwent an examination. Subsequently, she was handed over to the police for further investigation.
Muhammad Sammani Abubakar, the Public Relations Officer (PRO) of Gombe State University, confirmed the incident and reported that the university had taken immediate action by involving law enforcement authorities.
The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) in Gombe State, ASP Mahid Mu’azu Abubakar, verified the case’s authenticity, noting that it was reported to the police by the university’s Chief Security Officer. An investigation is now underway to determine the circumstances that led to the tragic act of allegedly killing her newborn shortly after giving birth.
