In a harrowing incident on Francis Street in West End, Townsville, a mother and her infant child narrowly escaped a catastrophic collision when their vehicle was struck by a Landcruiser at a high rate of speed. The dramatic turn of events culminated in a citizen’s arrest as local residents rushed to the aid of those involved.
The incident unfolded at approximately 1 pm on Sunday, leaving five individuals injured in its wake. The mother and baby were passengers in a car, accompanied by another individual, when their vehicle suffered a forceful rear-end collision from the Landcruiser, causing extensive damage.
The impact was so severe that the rear of the car housing the mother and child was torn off, leaving the vehicle severely mangled. Meanwhile, the Landcruiser careened through a residential fence before colliding with another car parked in the driveway.
Promptly following the collision, nearby Good Samaritans, including a group of lawn bowls players, sprang into action and apprehended the alleged Landcruiser driver in a citizen’s arrest. Ryan Kelly, one of the individuals who took part in the arrest, recounted the events, stating, “The guy that was in that car started running away, so a couple of us chased him,” as reported by 7News.
