The incident came to light when local residents heard the infant’s cries on a Saturday afternoon and promptly alerted the authorities. The newborn was swiftly transported to a nearby hospital, and subsequently, a formal First Information Report (FIR) was filed against unidentified individuals.
CCTV Footage Reveals Woman Leaving with Infant
The baby, wrapped in a cloth bearing the tag of a local laundry store, offered initial clues. The laundry store owner, upon inspection, indicated the location of a nearby housing society. Authorities reviewed CCTV footage from the society and its surroundings, uncovering crucial evidence. The footage captured a woman exiting the building, cradling the baby in her arms.
Focus Shifts to Apartment with Three Female Residents
Further investigation honed in on a particular apartment within the housing society, housing three women who shared the premises on a rental basis. These occupants informed the police that one of their flatmates had been isolating herself, avoiding interaction with them. The woman in question had relocated to Mumbai just six months ago and was employed at a local hotel.
Signs of distress were apparent as blood stains were discovered near her bed. Upon questioning, she admitted to having given birth the previous Tuesday, expressing overwhelming concerns about raising the child independently while grappling with financial difficulties. She explained that she had taken a four-day leave for childbirth but feared losing her job if she extended her absence. Furthermore, she disclosed that she had secretly married the child’s father in 2021, with both families unaware of the union. Additionally, she noted that the man was also facing financial hardships.
