Surprise, AZ – A 37-year-old man has been apprehended by Surprise Police in connection with the tragic death of a 1-year-old infant who was found to have narcotics in his system. Roderick Begay now faces a litany of charges related to the untimely demise of the child.
The incident unfolded on Saturday morning when Surprise Police responded to a distress call regarding an unresponsive baby boy at a residence in the vicinity of 151st Avenue and Cactus Road, at approximately 8 a.m. Law enforcement officers, in tandem with medical personnel from the Surprise Fire-Medical Department, promptly arrived at the scene and initiated life-saving measures, including cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) on the infant.
Subsequently, the infant was transported to a local hospital, where healthcare providers made a chilling discovery – the presence of a narcotic substance in the baby’s system. Despite the valiant efforts of the first responders, the infant tragically succumbed to the circumstances and passed away at 2 a.m. the following Sunday.
Further investigation by detectives led to the revelation of narcotics within the child’s residence, ultimately resulting in the arrest of Roderick Begay. Begay is now facing a battery of charges that include manslaughter, child abuse, endangerment, and misconduct with weapons, notably being a prohibited possessor. The nature of Begay’s relationship with the infant remains undisclosed as authorities continue their ongoing investigation into this distressing incident.
