Telford, UK – In a heart-wrenching turn of events, a two-year-old girl named Eliza, whose mother had previously been incarcerated for assaulting her as an infant, has tragically passed away. This unfortunate incident has triggered a renewed and thorough police investigation into the case, leaving the Telford community deeply concerned about the circumstances surrounding the toddler’s untimely death.
Sarah Ngaba, a resident of Briarwood in Telford, had been convicted and sentenced to 14 years in prison back in 2021 for causing grievous bodily harm with intent to her seven-week-old daughter. She had admitted to physically striking her infant at a residence in Brookside on November 13, 2019, although she maintained that she had not intended to cause harm.
Disturbingly, Ngaba had failed to promptly seek medical assistance for her injured child, waiting for more than two hours before calling for an ambulance. Upon arrival at the hospital, the baby was found unresponsive, and medical professionals discovered a series of severe injuries consistent with a deliberate assault.
Recent revelations have now emerged, indicating that Ngaba’s daughter, Eliza, tragically passed away on August 15 of the preceding year, at the tender age of two.
West Mercia Police have officially confirmed their intent to reexamine the case, issuing a statement that reads: “We are currently conducting further investigations into this matter to determine if additional action is warranted.”
This development aligns with the commencement of an inquest into Eliza’s death at Shirehall in Shrewsbury, which commenced last Friday. During the proceedings, details revealed that Eliza, hailing from Broseley, had suffered a traumatic brain injury leading to her demise on August 15, 2022, at ward 18 of Telford’s Princess Royal Hospital.
The coroner, Heath Westerman, conveyed his “sincere condolences to all the family and friends” before adjourning the full inquest to December 14, 2023.
