PITTSBURGH – Pennsylvania’s Lieutenant Governor, Austin Davis, joyfully announced on Sunday the birth of his daughter, Harper, born to his wife Blayre Holmes Davis.
Expressing his gratitude, Davis extended heartfelt appreciation to the medical professionals who had played a pivotal role throughout the past nine months and during the delivery. “We are profoundly thankful for the dedication of the doctors, nurses, and our doula,” he conveyed in a statement, “They provided exceptional care to Blayre during her pregnancy and ensured her birthing experience was both safe and empowering.”
In his statement, Davis also took a moment to acknowledge the strength and resilience of Black women. “Black women are nothing short of magical, and I know that today more than ever,” he emphasized, underscoring the importance of recognizing the extraordinary contributions of Black women in society.
Looking ahead, the couple intends to devote the coming weeks to bonding with their newborn daughter. Davis expressed the significance of this time for both the infant and new parents, highlighting the need for parental leave. “We will treasure this time, which is so vital for an infant and new parents,” he affirmed, “Parental leave is something every new parent should have access to.”
It’s worth noting that Pennsylvania state employees are eligible for up to six weeks of paid family leave, which aligns with Davis’s advocacy for parental leave and family support policies.
