The body of a newborn baby has been discovered in Notting Hill, west London, the Metropolitan Police confirmed.
Officers were called at 12:46 GMT on Tuesday to Talbot Road after reports that a baby’s body had been found in a bag outside a church. London Ambulance Service attended the scene, where the baby was pronounced dead.
The police are conducting “urgent enquiries” to locate the baby’s mother. At this time, the baby’s gender and exact age have not been confirmed.
Supt Owen Renowden described the situation as “extremely sad and shocking,” adding that the police’s “immediate priority” is finding the mother, as they believe she may have recently given birth.
