Dachshund Strangles Newborn in Tragic Attack While Parents Slept

by daisy

A heartbreaking incident occurred in Siberia, Russia, where a family is mourning the loss of their newborn daughter after she was attacked by the family’s dachshund while her parents were asleep. The baby, who was born in 2025, was found lifeless in her crib the morning of March 10, covered in bite marks.

According to the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation, the dog bit the baby during the night. Reports indicate that the dog “took a firm grip on the baby’s neck,” leading to strangulation. The baby’s mother discovered the child’s body after waking up.

The family had noticed the dog’s increasing aggression, especially after the baby’s birth. Despite their concerns, attempts to have the dog euthanized were unsuccessful. A local veterinarian refused to perform the procedure, stating the dog was healthy. As a temporary measure, the parents had been tying the dog to a leash at night, but on the night of the incident, the child’s father had forgotten to do so.

A family member revealed that the mother is blaming herself for the tragedy. The dog, an 8-year-old dachshund, had shown signs of aggression toward the family before the attack, which worsened after the birth of the baby. The family had sought euthanasia for the dog at multiple clinics, but all had declined. Following the incident, the dog was put down.

The Russian authorities are now investigating whether the parents were negligent in the death of their child. If found guilty of negligence, they could face up to two years in prison.

Dachshunds are known for their playful nature but can also display aggression, especially toward unfamiliar people. While they are a popular breed in the UK, where they are the fourth most common pet, their hunting instincts can sometimes lead to unpredictable behavior.

This tragic event highlights the risks of keeping aggressive pets and the importance of addressing behavioral issues before they escalate.
