Pennsylvania School Nurse Delivers Colleague’s Baby at Walter S. Miller Elementary

A routine day at Walter S. Miller Elementary School in Levittown, Pennsylvania, turned into an unforgettable moment for Genevieve Peto, a reading specialist for kindergarten through fourth grade students, last Thursday.

Peto, who was nearing her due date with her third child, began to feel unwell as the day went on. It wasn’t until 11:15 a.m. that she realized something was wrong.

“I really wasn’t feeling right,” Peto recalled. It wasn’t long before someone noticed her condition and immediately called the school nurse, Stephanie Frisco, who quickly arrived with a wheelchair.

However, Frisco, with her sharp medical instincts, realized this was no ordinary situation. She quickly recognized that Peto was in labor and there was no time to wait.

“When she brought the wheelchair, she took me back and I thought I’d be waiting for help, but she knew right away that we couldn’t wait,” Peto said.

Frisco, though she had never delivered a baby before, was prepared by years of medical experience for moments like this.

“Although I’d never delivered a baby, I had experience in many medical fields,” Frisco said.

Just 10 minutes after arriving at the nurse’s office, baby Cora was born, weighing 5 pounds, 4 ounces.

“I suctioned her mouth, and when she cried, it was the most beautiful sound I’ve ever heard,” Frisco said.

Peto, overcome with emotion, expressed her gratitude, saying, “I’m just so happy she’s okay. Considering all that could have gone wrong, she truly was an angel.”

For Frisco, the experience became more than just a career milestone. It was a personal connection that would forever link her to baby Cora.

“Gen will have this story, and Cora will carry it with her for the rest of her life. I’m just grateful to have been part of it,” Frisco said.
