Young Mother Dies After Giving Birth Due to Medical Negligence and Lack of Facilities in Zahedan

by daisy

A young mother from Nikshahr city tragically passed away on February 17, 2025, at Imam Ali Hospital in Zahedan, after complications following a cesarean section. Her family is now demanding an investigation into the circumstances surrounding her death, citing medical negligence, delayed diagnosis, and a lack of necessary medical facilities.

The deceased woman, 25-year-old Mina Hoti, was a mother of one and had been living in the village of Kenar Kamban in Nikshahr. According to reports, Mina had struggled with infertility for seven years before her pregnancy, and her delivery was two weeks earlier than expected. After undergoing a cesarean section at Nikshahr Hospital, her condition worsened due to severe bleeding and a dangerously low hemoglobin level of 4, far below the normal range for a pregnant woman.

Despite the serious condition, the medical staff discharged Mina without performing essential tests or providing specialized care. A few days later, her condition deteriorated, and her family took her to several hospitals in the region. However, due to inadequate facilities, the situation continued to worsen. Nikshahr Hospital lacked the necessary equipment, so the family transported her to Iranshahr Hospital and then to Imam Ali Hospital in Zahedan, which also lacked a blood specialist or proper medical care.

At Imam Ali Hospital, despite Mina’s critical condition, she was initially placed in a general internal medicine ward, not the intensive care unit (ICU). It was only after her condition worsened that she was transferred to the ICU. Doctors reported that her kidneys had failed and that her lungs were filled with fluid. The ICU, however, lacked a dialysis machine, forcing her to be transferred 500 meters in freezing conditions every night for dialysis while connected to a ventilator.

These transfers severely impacted her health, causing her blood oxygen levels to drop dramatically. After two nights in these conditions, the anesthesiologist stopped further transfers, and Mina passed away.

Her family has criticized the medical negligence throughout the entire process and expressed frustration at the lack of accountability from hospital officials. They are now calling on regulatory and judicial authorities to investigate the case and hold the medical staff and hospital administrators responsible for the tragic loss of their loved one.
