Princess Kate of Wales delighted fans during a visit to Pontypridd, Wales, on February 26, as she made a beeline for a baby while meeting with locals affected by the severe flooding from December 2024 storms. The royal couple, Prince William and Princess Kate, visited the area to meet residents and learn more about the impact of the flooding.
As the couple arrived at Pontypridd Market, Princess Kate, 43, was seen accepting flowers from a well-wisher before turning her attention to a baby in a blue puffer coat. The Princess smiled warmly as she interacted with the child, rubbing the little one’s shoulder.
The couple, who are parents to Prince George, 11, Princess Charlotte, 9, and Prince Louis, 6, are well-known for their close relationship with children. Princess Kate has made children’s welfare a major focus of her royal work, launching The Royal Foundation Centre for Early Childhood in 2021 to raise awareness about the importance of early childhood development. In January 2023, she unveiled the Shaping Us campaign to address the significance of a child’s early years.
Princess Kate has also spoken about her personal love for children, joking that spending time with babies makes her “broody.” She made this comment during a 2022 trip to Denmark, where she met parents and babies at the University of Copenhagen to learn about the Copenhagen Infant Mental Health Project.
Prince William, 42, has also playfully noted his wife’s “broody” reactions around babies. On a visit to Scotland in May 2022, he joked, “Can you get my wife out of here before she gets broody?” as they met a young child during a school visit.
The royal couple’s warmth toward children was evident during their recent trip to Wales. Princess Kate even stopped her convoy in January to meet a little girl who had been calling out to her, saying, “I heard you say ‘Hello’ from all the way back there, and I wanted to come and see you.”
During their Wales visit, the couple also spent time with locals, including Theresa Conner, the owner of The Welsh Cake Shop, who described them as “down to earth” and friendly. The couple, who are known for their genuine interactions with the public, were also apologetic for delays caused by flooding that affected their travel.
Local resident Lynda Herbert-Johnson, who waited for hours to meet the royals, praised their kindness and natural demeanor. “They were really lovely,” she said, adding that the couple looked fabulous despite the weather challenges.
Princess Kate, who is in remission after receiving cancer treatment last year, was also greeted by a well-wisher who shared that she was from the same village as Kate’s hometown of Bucklebury. Hutton, who now lives near Pontypridd, expressed her excitement about the royal visit, noting how great it was to see Kate looking so well.
The royal couple’s visit highlighted their ongoing commitment to engaging with communities and supporting important causes.
