A tragic incident occurred in Paris on February 24, when an 18-year-old American woman allegedly threw her newborn baby out of a hotel window. The infant, who was just hours old, did not survive the fall.
According to a statement from the Paris prosecutor’s office, the baby was thrown from the second floor of a hotel in the 20th arrondissement. Emergency responders arrived at the scene and provided urgent medical care, but the newborn could not be saved.
The prosecutor’s office has opened an investigation into the death, treating it as a homicide of a minor. The mother, an American tourist, was part of a group of young adults traveling through Europe. She was taken to the hospital for treatment after childbirth and was placed in police custody at the hotel. At around 6 a.m., a witness reported seeing the infant thrown from the Ibis Styles hotel, still connected by the umbilical cord. The baby was transported to Robert-Debré hospital in the 19th arrondissement. The mother, an 18-year-old student, was reportedly on a study trip to Paris with other American students.
Local media outlets have reported that the woman was immediately placed under police custody. The investigation is ongoing, and authorities are still working to determine the exact circumstances surrounding the incident, including whether denial of pregnancy played a role.
