Authorities are investigating the death of a six-month-old infant who was found unresponsive in a bouncer seat at a daycare in Statesboro, Georgia, last week.
Lennon Sammons became unresponsive on February 12, 2025, at the Pittman Park Church Education Center. According to the Statesboro Police Department, officers arrived at the daycare and found the child unresponsive in a bouncy seat. Paramedics transported Sammons to Georgia Regional Medical Center before transferring her to Memorial Hospital in Savannah. She was later pronounced dead on February 17, 2025.
The Georgia Department of Early Care and Learning (DECAL), which oversees state daycare facilities, expressed sadness over the incident and confirmed an investigation into the daycare is underway. “We are deeply saddened by the tragic incident reported by the Pittman Park Education Center,” the department said in a statement. “Our top priority is the health and safety of Georgia’s youngest learners.”
Reverend Dr. Jonathan Smith, senior pastor of Pittman Park United Methodist Church, which operates the daycare, offered condolences to the family and assured that the church would cooperate with the investigation.
The cause of death is pending an autopsy, which is expected to take several months to complete, according to Statesboro police. Captain Jared Akins emphasized the need for a thorough investigation. “It’s a very lengthy process,” he said.
