Assam Doctor Accused of Selling Newborn for Money

In a disturbing case of human trafficking, Niladri Shekhar Das, a doctor at Sribhumi District Civil Hospital in Assam, has been accused of illegally selling a newborn to a couple in exchange for money.

Reports indicate that a woman initially approached Dr. Das seeking an abortion. However, the doctor allegedly persuaded her to continue with the pregnancy. After the woman gave birth to a baby girl at a private healthcare facility, Dr. Das is accused of facilitating the transfer of the newborn to another couple for a monetary exchange.

The District Child Protection Committee (DCPC was alerted to the situation and acted swiftly to rescue the infant, who is now under the care of the Child Welfare Committee (CWC).
