LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) – It’s been a whirlwind 48 hours for Terrence Edwards Jr. His girlfriend gave birth to the couple’s first son, Terrence Edwards III, on Saturday, and despite a snowstorm delaying his flight, he made it to Notre Dame in time for the Cardinals’ game.
After the birth of his son late in the day, Edwards took time to enjoy the moment with his new family. However, bad weather prevented him from catching his private flight to South Bend for the 8 p.m. game.
Louisville coach Pat Kelsey kept a close eye on the situation, preparing to send a driver with a four-wheel drive vehicle to get Edwards there, but the new father managed to catch a morning flight.
He arrived just in time for the team’s pregame shootaround, where his teammates cheered when he walked in. “They were so excited to see him. He’s such a beloved member of our team,” Kelsey said.
Edwards, named ACC Player of the Week last week, had missed practices and film sessions due to his son’s arrival. The team and staff were fully supportive of his family priorities, with coaches providing him with game prep over Zoom.
Once on the court, Edwards quickly got back into the swing of things, playing solid defense and scoring 14 points in Louisville’s 20th win of the season—its first time reaching that milestone since 2020.
“Terrence is just a wonderful human being and is going to be an unbelievable dad,” Kelsey said. “I’m just so proud of him. He got here late, made it to shootaround, and led us well on the court as always.”
Edwards will have a bit of rest on the team flight home and will get a few days to adjust to his new role as a father before Louisville’s next game against Florida State on Friday afternoon.
