LITTLE ROCK, Ark. – In the final week of January, four people lost their lives in Little Rock, including 19-year-old Anthony Jakob White.
White was shot and killed at the Westbridge Apartments on Labette Manor Drive, leaving his mother, Meagan Poe, devastated.
Now, Poe is speaking out, hoping to prevent others from experiencing the same pain she feels.
“I should’ve never buried my kid,” Poe said, holding back tears.
It has been over two weeks since White’s death, but Poe still hasn’t found the strength to visit the location of the shooting.
“It destroyed my family,” she shared.
According to Poe, detectives informed her that her son was trying to sell a pair of shoes on Facebook Marketplace, which led him to meet the suspect at Labette Manor Drive.
“He got killed for no reason,” Poe said, tearfully.
Poe explained that her son was not familiar with the area. She now advises others to take extra precautions when meeting strangers, especially for transactions like buying or selling items.
“Meet in a well-lit area, preferably near a police station. Let someone know where you’re going, what you’re doing, and who you’re meeting,” Poe urged. “Do whatever you have to do. You don’t want to be another number. I don’t want another parent to bury their child or feel what I feel.”
The Little Rock Police Department has arrested two juveniles in connection with the shooting. They have been charged as adults with capital murder.
