A 4-year-old girl is receiving treatment at Paidon Children’s Hospital in Athens for serious burns, and her mother has been arrested as authorities look into the cause of her injuries.
Reports state that the child was brought to the hospital by her mother, where doctors discovered severe burns on her face, chest, abdomen, arms, and legs, as well as multiple bruises.
Initial findings from the Juvenile Protection Department suggest the girl suffered without medical care for at least four days while staying at home with her mother. Her condition worsened before she was first taken to Andreas Syngros Hospital for Dermatological Diseases, then transferred to Paidon for specialized treatment.
Authorities are investigating the incident, and a forensic medical examination of the child has been ordered. The mother, a 20-year-old Syrian national, has been arrested. More updates are expected as the investigation continues.
