FORT MYERS, Fla. – Feb. 5, 2025 – Lee Health hospitals, including HealthPark Medical Center and Cape Coral Hospital, delivered a record 771 babies in January, the highest number ever recorded in a single month for the health system.
HealthPark Medical Center’s Family Birth Suites delivered 616 babies in January. This is about the size of a kindergarten class born each day. In comparison, HealthPark delivered 599 babies and Cape Coral Hospital welcomed 130 babies in December 2024.
Cape Coral Hospital delivered 147 newborns last month.
Lee Health saw 8,302 deliveries in 2024, an increase from 7,871 in 2023.
“We are thrilled to reach this milestone,” said HealthPark Medical Center Chief Nurse Executive Kristie Huff. “This new record shows our commitment to providing exceptional care to newborns and expecting mothers in our community.”
HealthPark Medical Center delivered a record-breaking 30 newborns in a single day in 2023, surpassing the previous record of 29 babies in 2021. A typical day consists of 16-17 deliveries.
Both Cape Coral and HealthPark Medical Center are designated Baby-Friendly Hospitals. HealthPark Medical Center has comprehensive OB/GYN services and is located within Golisano Children’s Hospital of Southwest Florida. It is also one of 11 hospitals in Florida certified as a Regional Perinatal Intensive Care Center.
In 2022, Cape Coral Hospital had a first-time cesarean section rate of 13.8%, lower than the national benchmark of 23.6%.
The hospital offers family-centered maternity care with single-room suites, birthing tubs, and advanced fetal monitoring.
Breastfeeding counselors and lactation consultants are available 24/7.
