A police officer from the Jersey Shore is being praised for his quick thinking that saved the life of a newborn baby in late November, according to the Middle Township Police Department.
The incident took place on the evening of November 28, 2024, when police received a “frantic” 9-1-1 call. The caller reported that a one-week-old baby was unconscious and unresponsive.
Officer Rudy responded to the scene and found the baby’s mother attempting CPR on the infant, who appeared cold and was turning blue, authorities said.
Without hesitation, Officer Rudy took over the CPR. After the first round, the baby began to show signs of life.
In body camera footage shared by the department on Facebook, Officer Rudy is seen rushing to the scene and saying, “Let me see him” as he approaches the woman holding the baby. The officer then performs CPR as an ambulance arrives. Moments later, the officer hands the baby over to the paramedics.
The Atlantic Care medics continued CPR and eventually detected a pulse before transporting the baby to a nearby hospital.
The Middle Township Police Department credited Officer Rudy’s quick response and the teamwork with Atlantic Care staff for saving the baby’s life.
