The start of 2025 brought extra happiness to 10 families at Columbia Asia Hospital – Iskandar Puteri (CAH-IP) in Johor, where the first babies of the year were born, marking a fresh start for both the families and the hospital.
The first newborn of the year arrived at 3:03 a.m. on January 1, delivered to banker Nur Fatin Adam, 33, and her husband Muhammad Nazirul Md Yusof, 33, an assistant manager. Their son, weighing 3.04 kg, is their third child. The couple was delighted with their son’s timing, as his birthday will now fall on New Year’s Day each year. They had planned for a January delivery and were thrilled with the memorable start to their year.
The next arrival came at 2:17 p.m., when first-time parents Teo Shi Han, 26, a housewife, and her husband Tan Choon Guan, 37, a crane operator, welcomed a 2.81 kg baby boy. The couple, from Taman Laman Setia in Gelang Patah, expressed their gratitude to the doctors, midwives, and nurses for their support.
At 5:41 p.m., a baby girl was born to Siti Nur Shahila Shamsuddin, 28, a housewife, and her husband Burhan Hakeem Abdullah, 28, a chef. Weighing 2.86 kg, their daughter arrived on a day they described as significant, and they thanked the hospital staff for their care throughout the pregnancy.
Earlier in the morning, at 11:09 a.m., auditor Lee Yi Shan, 28, and her husband Tan Wei Rong, 29, a relationship manager, welcomed their first child, a 3.31 kg baby girl. The couple, from Bukit Indah, Johor Baru, expressed their appreciation for the hospital’s care, which ensured a safe delivery.
In the evening, at 7:42 p.m., teacher Kirthana Govindan, 29, and her husband Karthigesan Raman, 31, a technician, became parents to their first child, a 3.21 kg baby boy. The couple, from Taman Nusa Bestari 2, Skudai, also praised the hospital’s medical team for making the delivery smooth.
The newborns were cared for by the hospital’s skilled obstetricians, including Dr. Rajesh Mahendran Radha Krishnan, Dr. Rohaini Md Jonit, and Dr. Hezrin Nazlin Mohamed, as well as consultant paediatricians Dr. Azhar Napis and Dr. Razlina Johari. The hospital’s team of midwives and nurses worked tirelessly to ensure the safety and comfort of all the families.
