LOUISVILLE, Ky. — A mother has been charged with manslaughter after her 3-month-old baby drowned in a bathtub at a Louisville motel on New Year’s Day.
Amber Winstead, 36, was arrested by Louisville Metro Police and charged with second-degree manslaughter in connection with the death of her child.
The incident took place around 4:30 a.m. at a Motel 6, located in the 6100 block of Airport Hotels Boulevard. Police arrived at the scene and found 3-month-old Ki’arri Winstead unresponsive in the bathtub.
According to Ki’arri’s sister, Kiyah, their mother had been holding the baby in the bathtub when she fell asleep. Kiyah also mentioned that she believes drugs may have played a role in the infant’s death.
The baby’s grandmother is now caring for Amber Winstead’s other children.
