San Antonio welcomed the first baby of the new year just minutes after midnight at Christus Children’s Hospital. Crystal Cash and Omar Barrientes celebrated the birth of their son, Cyd Cix, at 12:13 a.m. on January 1, 2025.
Baby Cyd is not only the couple’s first child but also a significant addition to their families. He is the ninth grandson on Crystal’s side and the first grandson on Omar’s side.
“I’m just proud—like, I created this. We created it,” Crystal said, smiling as she held her newborn son.
Omar proudly noted that baby Cyd is a trailblazer for his generation, joking, “He leads the way for Generation Beta!”
The family expressed how special the moment was, sharing how much love little Cyd has already brought into their lives. “Lots of love and catering—he’s the lucky one,” Crystal added.
To celebrate the occasion, local healthcare systems, including CHRISTUS Children’s Hospital, presented the family with several gift baskets. The baskets were filled with baby essentials such as car seats, toys, and a small bathtub, along with a festive New Year onesie.
“He’s got so many people that love him already,” Crystal said. “My dad was just crying yesterday.”
For Crystal and Omar, baby Cyd’s arrival is the greatest gift they could have asked for. As San Antonio ushered in 2025, the city’s first New Year’s baby began creating memories that his family—and the community—will cherish for years to come.
From all of us at KENS5, congratulations to Crystal, Omar, and baby Cyd. Happy New Year, San Antonio!
