In a distressing incident from Kushinagar, Uttar Pradesh, a man was allegedly forced to “sell” his three-year-old son in order to secure the release of his wife and newborn from a private hospital after he was unable to pay the medical fees. The shocking event occurred when Harish Patel, a daily wage worker, sought medical care for his wife’s delivery. However, due to his inability to immediately settle the bill, the hospital staff reportedly detained his wife and the newborn.
Desperate to reunite his family, Patel agreed to give up his three-year-old son under a fraudulent adoption agreement in exchange for a few thousand rupees. This alarming situation sparked widespread outrage when authorities were informed.
Police Investigation and Arrests:
Upon discovering the incident, local authorities swiftly launched an investigation. On Saturday, police arrested five individuals, including Amresh Yadav, the alleged middleman, and the “adoptive” parents, Bhola Yadav and Kalawati, who were involved in this illegal transaction. The investigation also led to the arrest of a fake doctor, Tara Kushwaha, and a hospital worker, Suganti.
Superintendent of Police Santosh Kumar Mishra confirmed the arrests and stated that the child had been safely rescued and reunited with his family. Additionally, a police constable who allegedly failed to take appropriate action has been removed from active duty.
This incident underscores the grave consequences of inadequate healthcare systems and financial pressures faced by marginalized communities, prompting calls for stricter oversight of private medical institutions and swift justice for those involved in illegal practices.
