Amid the chaos of Hurricane Ernesto on Saturday, a moment of joy arrived with the birth of Sarai Bailey. The baby girl was born at 8 a.m. to proud parents Stephanie and Keenan Bailey, becoming a new little sister to their 18-month-old son, Kaden.
The Baileys were at home when Stephanie’s contractions began around 4 a.m., four days before her due date.
“Thankfully, the contractions started just as the eye of Hurricane Ernesto was passing over, so the winds had calmed down,” Stephanie explained. Despite living close to the hospital, the couple had to navigate roads blocked by fallen trees to get there. “I was surprised at how quickly Sarai arrived—just four hours after the contractions started.”
Keenan shared his surprise at the rapid turn of events. “Sarai was here before I could get back to the hospital after dropping Kaden off at my mother’s,” he said. “When I walked back in, there she was.”
Due to the hospital being in lockdown as the second half of the storm approached, Keenan couldn’t stay long but was able to return later that night to reunite with his family.
