Federal safety regulators issued a strong warning on Thursday, urging parents and caregivers to immediately stop using certain baby loungers and cradle swings following the deaths of six infants. The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) specifically cautioned against the use of baby loungers made by Mamibaby, Yoocaa, DHZJM, Cosy Nation, and Hyhuudth, citing suffocation risks.
The CPSC reported that five infant deaths have been linked to loungers made by Mamibaby, Yoocaa, and DHZJM. These tragic incidents include the deaths of a 10-day-old and a five-month-old in Mamibaby loungers used for bed-sharing in 2020 and 2021. Additionally, two infants died in Yoocaa loungers: a three-month-old in 2021, who was found trapped between a bed and a wall, and a four-month-old in 2022, who was found unresponsive after being placed to sleep with a blanket. The fifth infant fatality, occurring in 2020, involved a DHZJM-branded lounger.
The CPSC emphasized that the Mamibaby, Yoocaa, DHZJM, Cosy Nation, and Hyhuudth loungers do not meet federal safety standards for infant sleep products. The main concerns are low sides that fail to securely hold the baby and thick sleeping pads that pose a suffocation hazard. Despite these risks, the manufacturer, Ningbo Tree Nest Children Products Co., based in China, has not agreed to recall the loungers.
These loungers were sold online at various retailers, including Walmart.com and Amazon.com. Specifically:
Mamibaby loungers were available on Walmart.com from March 2023 to December 2023, priced around $43.
Mamibaby and Cosy Nation loungers were sold on Amazon.com from June 2023 to June 2024, ranging between $31 and $50.
Yoocaa loungers were listed on Amazon.com from January 2021 to June 2023, priced between $20 and $87.
DHZJM loungers were available on Amazon.com from April 2019 to November 2023, with prices between $17 and $49.
Hyhuudth loungers were sold on Amazon.com from May 2023 to August 2024, ranging from $39 to $46.
In a related warning, the CPSC advised against using DNYSYSJ and OUKANING cradle swings, citing suffocation and fall hazards. This caution follows the death of a three-month-old in 2021, who died in a cradle swing of a similar design.
The DNYSYSJ cradle swings were sold on Amazon.com from October 2021 to May 2024, priced between $95 and $130. The OUKANING cradle swings were available on Amazon.com from October 2021 to February 2023, with prices ranging from $80 to $145.
Federal regulators are urging all parents and caregivers to stop using these products immediately to prevent further tragedies.
