A Brentwood man faces multiple charges following an alleged assault on a mother walking with her one-month-old infant. Los Angeles County District Attorney George Gascón announced on Friday that Abraham Shily, 26, has been charged in connection with the incident that occurred on July 16.
According to reports, Shily is accused of sexually and physically assaulting the victim, Carmina Lu, as she walked with her infant in Brentwood. The assault reportedly took place around 4:30 p.m. in a residential area. Shily allegedly caused significant harm to Lu before fleeing the scene.
District Attorney Gascón emphasized the severity of the allegations. “Such a heinous assault highlights the vulnerabilities faced by our community members, especially women and new mothers. No one should fear for their safety while walking with their child in their own neighborhood. We are committed to holding those who commit such acts fully accountable.”
Shily has been charged with one felony count of assault with a deadly weapon, one misdemeanor count of sexual battery, one misdemeanor count of child abuse, and one misdemeanor count of false imprisonment. He pleaded not guilty to all charges during his arraignment on August 8.
Shily was arrested on July 18, and bail was set at $50,000, which he has since posted. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for October 1 at the Airport Courthouse, Department 31. If convicted on all charges, Shily faces a maximum sentence of nine years in state prison.
The Los Angeles Police Department continues to investigate the case.
