The ceiling of a neonatal intensive care unit at an Istanbul hospital collapsed, leading to the tragic death of a premature baby.
The incident occurred at Bakırköy Professor Dr. Murat Dilmener Emergency Hospital due to a leak in the hot water piping in the ceiling. Eight infants were in the unit at the time and were safely relocated, but one premature baby, weighing about 800 grams, died shortly after.
The hospital, opened in May 2020, was built in response to the COVID-19 pandemic and named after Dr. Dilmener, who died from the virus.
