In a concerning incident highlighting the vulnerability of infants, a 10-month-old child in Purnia, Bihar, swallowed his mother’s hair clip while playing nearby. The situation quickly turned critical as the clip lodged in the child’s throat, making breathing difficult.
When the child’s condition worsened, his parents rushed him to local doctors, who, unable to handle the emergency, referred them to Purnia’s Government Medical College Hospital. There, under the direction of hospital superintendent Dr. Sanjay Kumar, a team led by Dr. Tarakeshwar Kumar and Dr. Vikas Kumar performed an intensive operation to extract the hair clip from the child’s stomach.
After approximately three hours of meticulous effort, the doctors successfully removed the foreign object. Following the surgery, the medical team advised the parents against giving small toys to their child, especially as teething begins. They emphasized the dangers of accidental swallowing and urged parents to keep items such as pins, clips, sharp objects, and small toys out of children’s reach, while also maintaining vigilant supervision.
This incident echoes a previous viral case where a toddler similarly swallowed a hair clip, prompting widespread concern among parents about the hazards posed by small objects in households.
The successful intervention by the medical team in Purnia underscores the critical importance of immediate medical attention and parental vigilance in preventing such accidents among young children.
