Southend Council Proposes Tree Planting Program for Newborns

by daisy

Southend City Council members are proposing to plant a tree for every newborn, aiming to enhance the seaside city’s environment. Dan Nelson and Alan Dear of the Conservative Party are leading this initiative, suggesting that each child’s family would be informed about the tree’s location.

The proposal is scheduled for discussion at the upcoming full council meeting this Thursday, as reported by the Local Democracy Reporting Service. Richard Longstaff, a Green Party member supporting the idea from Leigh ward, expressed enthusiasm, stating it would foster a stronger bond between residents and their city.

Longstaff emphasized the need for more tree planting sites, acknowledging current restrictions on tree planting. The initiative responds to recent criticism of the council’s tree removal practices.
