A Houston woman has been arrested and charged with child endangerment after allegedly mishandling a 10-day-old baby.
Freda Joy Avuru, 33, is accused of holding the infant with one arm, causing the baby’s body to flop around like a “ragdoll” without supporting the child’s head.
Authorities determined that Avuru’s actions put the baby in immediate danger of injury, leading to the child endangerment charge.
According to the Texas Family Code, Avuru did not voluntarily surrender the baby to a designated emergency infant care provider.
The relationship between Avuru and the baby is currently unclear. As of the latest reports, no bond amount has been set, and Avuru remains in jail.
