Becoming a parent is a significant life adjustment, and for Lauren Atkins, it was a moment of hitting a breaking point.
Lauren, 34, the wife of country singer Thomas Rhett, discussed the challenges she faced when she became a mother to her first two children in a unique way.
In the new White Chair Film released by I Am Second, Lauren, now a mother of four, shared that they were in the process of adopting their daughter Willa Gray when they discovered she was pregnant. This sudden expansion grew their family from two to four in just a few months.
“Three months to the day after Willa came home, I went to the hospital to deliver Ada,” Lauren explained.
The transition from having no children to two in such a short time, along with welcoming a newborn, was challenging. Both parents handled the change differently.
“I began touring with my husband. His life went on, and mine stopped. I felt like we weren’t doing it together anymore,” she said.
Many mothers understand the difficulty of seeing their partner’s life continue as usual while they deal with a newborn and another new child.
“I just hit a breaking point, where I didn’t like him and I resented him,” Lauren admitted.
The couple, who met in primary school, attended an intensive two-day counseling session to address their issues.
Lauren described the counseling as a restart for their marriage. Despite sharing hard truths, it was the shift they needed.
The couple, who married in October 2012, welcomed their third daughter, Lennon Love, in February 2020, and their fourth daughter, Lillie Carolina, in 2021.
Lauren often shares moments of their family life on Instagram, showcasing their four girls.
Recently, they celebrated their 11th wedding anniversary with a sweet family moment, where all four girls wore matching outfits.
“What 11 years with you looks like happy anni cutie,” Lauren captioned the post.
