WHITESBORO, N.Y. — State Senator Joe Griffo (R-Rome) is encouraging local children to enjoy books this summer. He launched his summer reading initiative at the Dunham Public Library in Whitesboro on Thursday morning.
The theme for this year is “Adventure Begins at Your Local Library.” Children are encouraged to read three books over the summer. Their efforts will be recognized with certificates.
The initiative aims to foster a lifelong love of reading and prevent a decline in reading skills during the summer.
“We believe that in the summer, kids should have a balanced approach,” Griffo said. “They should enjoy the outdoors, but also remember to read a little to stay sharp and be ready for school in the fall.”
Senator Griffo hopes the program will keep children engaged with reading while they enjoy their summer activities.
