Baby Dies After Becoming Unresponsive in Extreme Heat in Lake Havasu

A four-month-old baby girl died after becoming unresponsive in extreme heat over the Fourth of July weekend while on a boat with her family on Lake Havasu.

“On Friday, July 5, at approximately 5:10 p.m., a four-month-old child was transported from a boat on Lake Havasu to Lake Havasu Regional Medical Center for a heat-related illness,” said Anita Mortensen, a spokesperson for the Mohave County Sheriff’s Department.

Mortensen added that the child was later transported to Phoenix Children’s Hospital, where she died.

According to the National Weather Service, the temperature in Lake Havasu City reached 121 degrees on Friday. It is not clear how long the child had been on the boat.

This tragic incident follows the death of a 10-year-old boy from suspected heat-related causes after hiking in Phoenix last week.
