The Emir of Kano, Alhaji Muhammadu Sanusi II, emphasized that girl child education is crucial in addressing issues like child marriage, maternal health, nutrition, and poverty across generations. He made these remarks during a meeting with a delegation from the Kano State Government led by Commissioner for Information, Baba Dantiye, yesterday in Kano.
Sanusi highlighted that investing in educating girls is essential for creating a fairer, more prosperous society, improving public health, and boosting economic opportunities for all. He emphasized that girl child education is a pivotal solution that tackles multiple challenges simultaneously.
“To solve our myriad problems, we must prioritize solutions that have broad-reaching impacts. Girl child education stands out in addressing issues like child marriage, maternal health, nutrition, and poverty across generations,” Sanusi stated.
He called on both the public and private sectors, as well as philanthropists, to invest in building schools, improving transportation, and supporting school feeding programs. Drawing from successful examples like Morocco, Sanusi stressed the importance of social welfare initiatives to encourage families, especially the poor, to keep their children in school.
Sanusi also acknowledged the efforts of the Kano State Government in addressing pension and gratuity issues, noting recent disbursements totaling N11 billion.
Commissioner Dantiye, in his speech, sought the Emir’s cooperation in attracting multinational investors to the state, highlighting the potential for partnerships that could further economic development in Kano.
