LAHORE: A recent investigation at Children’s Hospital, Lahore, regarding the alleged exchange of a baby boy with a deceased baby girl has brought forward new details. According to hospital management, the parents took their male baby from the hospital against medical advice, raising questions about the reported exchange.
The probe was initiated following a complaint by Irfan, father of a four-day-old baby boy from Gujranwala. He accused hospital staff of swapping his son with a dead baby girl and demanded action against those responsible.
The hospital committee, comprising senior medical teachers, conducted interviews with relevant staff, including doctors, nurses, and paramedics from the neonatal unit where the baby received treatment. CCTV footage from the unit was also reviewed as part of the investigation.
According to the committee’s findings, despite extensive medical efforts, the baby’s condition deteriorated, prompting doctors to transfer him to the high dependency unit for ventilator support. However, family members, after signing a Leave Against Medical Advice form, chose to leave the hospital with the baby, declining further treatment.
While the hospital’s inquiry addresses the medical course of events, it does not explicitly address the alleged baby exchange. Meanwhile, Naseerabad police have registered a First Information Report (FIR) based on Irfan’s complaint regarding the reported exchange.
