TAYABAS CITY – The city launched its 50th Nutrition Month observance on Thursday with a lively event aimed at promoting the bond between mothers and their infants for the well-being of children under one year old.
Fourteen babies, aged 8 to 11 months, participated in a crawling race designed to enhance their agility while strengthening their relationship with their parents.
The Tayabas Nutrition Council organized the “Those Babies Race,” where participants crawled across seven-meter long rubber mats, cheered on by their families.
Rice Ysabel Castillos, a ten-month-old from Barangay Dapdap, won the race by reaching the finish line in 49 seconds. She crawled straight towards her mother at the other end.
Baby Castillos received the grand prize of PHP1,500 and a baby loot bag containing supplies like milk and diapers.
All participants were given a PHP700 consolation prize and baby loot bags.
Assistant City Health Officer Maria Graciella Derada-De Leon said the event helps parents and children interact with others and showcases the children’s strengths.
Mayor Lovely Reynoso-Pontioso expressed joy over the active participation of parents and children in the Nutrition Month activities.
“It’s exciting to watch the babies crawling towards their parents, showing their agility and unaware that they are competing with other babies,” Pontioso said, thanking the City Health Office for organizing the event.
