MANILA — Class suspensions are necessary during disasters, but the nearly three months of lost learning in the 2023-2024 school year signal a severe education crisis.
Jonathan Geronimo, vice chairperson of the Alliance of Concerned Teachers (ACT), emphasized that these lost teaching days reflect the significant challenges faced by students and teachers daily.
“This situation shows the real difficulties our teachers and students deal with due to poor policies and insufficient government funding,” he told INQUIRER.net.
Research by the Second Congressional Commission on Education (EDCOM 2) and the Philippine Institute for Development Studies (PIDS) revealed that 53 teaching days were lost due to school closures and additional non-teaching tasks assigned to teachers.
