JEFFERSON PARISH, La. — A GoFundMe campaign has been started to support the family of a 2-year-old girl who drowned in a Metairie swimming pool last week. The fundraiser was created by a friend of the child’s father.
“Every dollar raised will help the Hawkins family with these unexpected expenses,” she said.
The toddler’s cousin also drowned. According to the Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office, the girls were playing with siblings outside their apartment unit when they entered the gated pool area. Deputies arrived to find two unresponsive toddlers and began CPR. The children were taken to the hospital, where they were pronounced dead.
The full statement from the GoFundMe page reads:
“Hi, my name is Ashley, and I’m raising money on behalf of Gary Hawkins for the funeral of his beloved 2-year-old daughter, Jahvon Hawkins, who tragically lost her life in a drowning accident on Sunday morning.
Jahvon and her cousin Neveah were playing with siblings and other children in a fenced-in backyard at the apartment complex. The girls were fine when a relative checked on them. Unfortunately, soon after, they gained access to the community pool, and the relative found them in the water. Emergency personnel worked diligently to revive them, but both were pronounced deceased at the hospital.
Any support you can offer Gary and his family during this difficult time would be greatly appreciated. Every dollar raised will help the Hawkins family with these unexpected expenses. Our thoughts and prayers are with the family at this devastating time.”
The GoFundMe campaign aims to alleviate the financial burden on the family during this tragic period.
