EUNICE, La. – A Louisiana mother has been arrested after allegedly throwing her 6-month-old baby into a trash can during a fight at Walmart, according to local reports.
The Eunice Police Department confirmed to KLFY that the baby was not injured and has been released to other family members. The mother was taken into custody.
Police responded to the Walmart on Saturday afternoon after receiving reports of a fight involving several women near the store’s entrance.
During the altercation, 38-year-old Brionka Benjamin, who was holding her 6-month-old baby, threw the child into a trash can and then struck another woman, investigators said.
Benjamin was arrested on charges of simple battery and cruelty to juveniles, according to KATC.
Her 20-year-old niece was also arrested on a simple battery charge for her alleged involvement in the fight.
