Des Moines police are investigating the death of a 6-year-old boy who was hit by a vehicle on Sunday at Water Works Park.
According to police spokesperson Sgt. Paul Parizek, rescuers arrived to find the boy critically injured near the park’s Fleur Drive entrance. Bystanders had already begun lifesaving efforts, including CPR. Despite continued efforts by rescuers, the boy died after being transported to UnityPoint Health Blank Children’s Hospital by Des Moines Fire Department medics, Parizek stated in a news release.
The investigation is ongoing. The release did not provide the names of the child or the driver involved, nor did it mention if any charges had been filed.
This incident marks the city’s ninth traffic-related death this year.
