A seven-month-old baby girl has died after being mauled by the family dog at their home in Coventry, police confirmed today.
The infant sustained severe head injuries and was rushed to the hospital on Sunday afternoon but sadly did not survive.
The dog, which was not classified as a dangerous breed, was euthanized by police officers who responded to the scene.
A spokesperson for West Midlands Police stated, “A baby has tragically died after being bitten by a pet dog at a home in Coventry. We were called to a property on Shorncliffe Road shortly after 3 PM on Sunday. Together with our ambulance colleagues, we arrived within minutes.
“A seven-month-old baby girl had sustained serious head injuries after being bitten by the family’s dog inside the home. Paramedics provided treatment at the scene before transporting her to the hospital for further care. Tragically, she died a short time later. Our thoughts remain with her family at this devastating time.”
The police spokesperson added that the investigation is in its early stages and enquiries are ongoing.
