Senator Oluremi Tinubu, the First Lady, has emphasized the critical need for all Nigerian children to have access to quality education.
In a statement released yesterday, Mrs. Tinubu also extended her greetings to Nigerian Muslims celebrating Eid-el-Kabir. Her statement marked the International Day of the African Child and underscored the importance of education for all children in Africa.
“The theme for this year, ‘Education for All Children in Africa: The Time is Now,’ highlights the urgent need for quality education for every child,” she said. “Quality education is impossible without a strong reading culture.”
To foster reading, she stressed the need for accessible and well-stocked libraries and urged schools to prioritize daily reading activities within their curricula.
“I encourage the strengthening of book clubs nationwide. Book clubs offer a great platform for children to share stories and discuss ideas,” Mrs. Tinubu added. “Reading should be a cornerstone of our children’s education.”
She concluded her statement with, “Happy International Day of the African Child. God bless all our children and the Federal Republic of Nigeria.”
In her Eid-el-Kabir message, Mrs. Tinubu reassured Nigerians that the country would soon overcome its challenges.
“On this joyous occasion of Eid-el-Kabir, I extend my heartfelt greetings to our Muslim faithful nationwide,” she stated. “This celebration teaches us the importance of submission to Allah’s will and the value of sacrifice, as demonstrated by Prophet Ibrahim (ASW).”
She encouraged Nigerians to maintain faith during difficult times, noting, “This message of sacrifice and faith is especially relevant now. At the end of any tunnel, there is always light.”
Mrs. Tinubu urged those blessed with abundance to share with their less privileged neighbors and wished everyone a blessed Eid.
