KUALA LUMPUR: A 17-month-old girl purportedly suffered abuse at a daycare center in Bandar Mahkota Cheras, Kajang, on Saturday (June 1).
According to Kajang District Police chief ACP Mohd Zaid Hassan, the police were notified of the incident by the child’s 26-year-old father at 7:36 pm.
The father, who works as an e-hailing driver, stated that upon arriving to collect his daughter from the daycare center, one of the babysitters informed him that another babysitter had handled the child roughly during feeding, resulting in injury to her nose.
“After examination at a hospital, a medical officer confirmed that the child had suffered from ‘soft tissue injury’. Subsequently, the babysitter was summoned to provide a statement,” he explained in a statement on Monday (June 3).
Further inquiry revealed that the daycare center had been operational for nearly three months, purportedly without a license.
Mohd Zaidi stated that the center currently caters to nine children, with three babysitters who also function as educators.
The case is under investigation under Section 31(1)(a) of the Child Act 2001.
Those with any information regarding the incident are urged to contact the investigating officer, Insp Muaz Mazlan, at 017-9788804. – Bernama
